Set in Lahore in 1947, Tryst (With Destiny) takes place at night, beneath the arches of a railway bridge, where a runaway woman’s world collides with a former inmate of a lunatic asylum. In their brief meeting, these two tormented souls try to understand the new world order created by the recent partition of Pakistan and India, whilst at the same time attempting to come to terms with the trials they themselves are enduring.

Akkas Al-Ali is a Bangladeshi playwright who grew up in Tower Hamlets. He started writing short stories and plays whilst reading Arabic and History at the School of Oriental and African Studies. In 2002, he joined the Eastside Young Writers and Performers group and won a Millennium Award to write his first play, Sima’s Story, which was showcased at the Royal Court Theatre in 2003. After completing the Royal Court’s Young Writers Programme, he was invited to join its Critical Mass Programme for which he wrote his second play, Beirut: 1982 (2004). His third play, Babel Junction, written collaboratively, was produced at the Hackney Empire in 2006 to critical acclaim. In 2007, he wrote and directed his one-woman play The Last Sky for the Oxford Playhouse. In 2008, he was invited to showcase his short play, Hanging Ayaz, at Soho Theatre. In 2010, he was awarded an Arts and Humanities Research Council studentship to complete an MA in Writing For Performance at Goldsmiths, University of London. His short stories and essays has featured in Chroma, Sable Lit and Brand. He is a member of Other Asias, a transnational collective of artists, writers and performers which activates chains of exhibitions, film screenings and performances across continents.
Erica Miller read Theology at Oxford and went on to study acting. After polishing her directing skills at Stonecrabs Theatre, she directed: LUV (Play for a Day),Wrapped Up (Missfit Mondays), Looking in the Wrong Places (The Albany), Echoes (The Albany), Opposites Attract (Network Theatre) and Ears & Hearts(Hen & Chickens Theatre). As an assistant director, she has worked on: Remember Me (Actors Themselves), The Wrong Sleep (Cock Tavern Theatre), Matter of Intent (Bridewell Theatre), After Doroteia (Oval House Theatre) and Know Your Limits (Stonecrabs Theatre Co), Time for the Good Looking Boy (Boxclever Theatre), Players in Progress (for Glen Walford), Remember Me (Actors Themselves), The Wrong Sleep (Cock Tavern Theatre), Matter of Intent (Bridewell Theatre), After Doroteia (Oval House Theatre), Know Your Limits (Stonecrabs Theatre), Otieno (Southwark Playhouse), The Myth of Apples (Jermyn Street Theatre) and The Translators (Soho Theatre).
Tara Arts was founded in 1977, by young South Asians, and was the first Asian-led theatre company to be formed in the UK. The Studio regularly premieres groundbreaking work from emerging and established artists. Led by artistic director Jatinder Verma, Tara has also toured plays around the UK and as far afield as Cairo, Tokyo and Melbourne. Past productions have included: A Taste for Mangoes (2003, Wiltons Music Hall), The Black Album (2009, National Theatre),The Rape of Lucrece (2008, The Studio) and The Animals' Lawsuit (2009, The Studio).
